It is with the utmost pleasure that today we can announce our flagship wine, the Hatters Hill Pinot Noir 2019, has won the Number One spot at the annual Cuisine New Zealand Pinot Noir tasting.
Established in 1987, Cuisine magazine is New Zealand’s most iconic food and drink publication. Their annual Pinot Noir tasting is a competitive blind tasting by some of New Zealand’s most respected wine judges.
Our Hatters Hill Pinot Noir 2019 was blind tasted alongside over 100 other Pinot Noirs from all parts of New Zealand. Not only is it an honour for Delta to be awarded this number one position, it is also a complement to our fantastic region that a Marlborough Pinot Noir has taken out this top spot. In the 2020 tasting, seven of the top ten Pinot Noir’s were from Central Otago, including the top four positions.
Marlborough’s diverse sub-regions makes it a spectacular area for many varieties, but it is the Southern Valleys that offer strikingly consistent quality Pinot Noir. Our founding Delta Vineyard was planted with Burgundian clones in the early 2000s and sits nestled in the Southern Valleys. Diversity of soil, consistent warm weather and complex micro-climates all intertwine to help produce this miraculous grape.
Pinot Noir is a complex and fickle grape to manage, yet Delta’s winemaker Heather Stewart has an intrinsic understanding of this variety. Matured using only the finest French oak barriques, the Hatters Hill style is elegant, restrained yet vibrant and fruit forward.
To celebrate our number one spot, we’re giving you the chance to enjoy a six-bottle case of Hatters Hill Pinot Noir with 15% off. All you need to do it add the code CUISINE2021 in at the checkout to receive your celebratory discount.
Enjoy your Pinot Noir!
