The Delta Wine Company is continuing to strive towards excellence, and we’re always thrilled to see our hard work recognised at home and internationally.
Recently, Delta’s flagship Hatters Hill Pinot Noir 2017 raised to the occasion and won not only gold, but Blue-Gold and a Top 100 position at the Sydney International Wine Competition.
What’s particularly intriguing about this competition is that the finalist wines are judged alongside selected food pairings. The judges categorise the food pairings into categories of similar palate weight- from lighter through to the heaviest full-bodied wines. This enables the competitions chefs to create dishes that are of an equal comparison to the wines.
In the first instance, the wines are assessed purely as a standalone wine, then the food is introduced and each wine is judged again. The food's flavours add extra complexity to the judge’s palate before the wine is tasted and the final score entered. Pretty cool huh?
What's so awesome about our wine though? Delta’s Hatters Hill Pinot Noir 2017 is a small batch, hand crafted Pinot Noir from our Delta vineyard at the mouth of the Waihopai Valley in Marlborough. Just a single Pinot Noir clone was selected for this wine, Dijon Clone 115. This clone typically shows richer, spicier characteristics than other lighter plummy options. After harvesting in the cool of the eve', the grapes were fermented and aged in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barriques for just under a year, before only a couple of the finest barrels were chosen for the final blend.
It reaffirms our belief that the Hatters Hill range are exceptional food pairing wines and we hope you'll love it as much as we do. Available to buy here!
