2020 Delta's Vintage Whirlwind

It has been a whirlwind few months for The Delta Wine Company, and all our colleagues involved in the 2020 harvest.

Firstly, we were incredibly privileged to be able to operate during New Zealand’s Level Four lockdown which commenced at midnight on 25th March. Following incredibly strict social distancing and hygiene protocols throughout lockdown, the team were able to continue harvesting grapes and commence winemaking, despite the challenges COVID-19 threw our way.

The added pressure and stress on the winery team during this period was unprecedented, made only slightly easier by the outstanding quality of fruit harvested from our vineyards throughout the region.

Delta Pinot Noir GrapesAt first glance of the 2020 vintage wines, we’re incredibly excited that the upcoming 2020 releases will be a powerful reminder of the quality produced this year, during the most pressing and turbulent times we’ve ever experienced during vintage. On a more positive note, the grape growing season for the 2020 vintage was truly stunning. Consistently dry, sunny and warm conditions, with minimal rain, meant the opportunity for disease to spread in the vines was limited, and therefore the quality exceptionally high across all corners of Marlborough’s winegrowing region.
