Our handcrafted Delta Merlot is a rich and flavoursome Merlot from Hawke’s Bay, showing flavours of boysenberry, rich plums and cocoa powder.
Selected from low-cropping vineyards in the internationally recognised Hawke's Bay winegrowing region, situated on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island. Warm days, cooler nights with gravel rich soils lead to small, tight berries full of bold and juicy flavours with a rich and vibrant colour.
Carefully fermented and aged for nine months in a combination of tanks and seasoned French oak barriques, Heather then carefully selected the most interesting barrels prior to final blending and bottling.
Awards and Accolades
Beautifully ripe and gorgeously fragrant, the wine shows blackcurrant, dark plum, violet, thyme and hazelnut aromas on the nose with a hint of dried herbs. It's succulent and supple on the palate, delivering lovely fruit purity and mid-palate weight, wonderfully structured by chalky tannins. At its best: now to 2029.

The palate is full, weights rich cocoa and nutty notes of toasted almonds; interweaved with a hefty extraction of grippy tannin, leads the wine to a dry and an adequate finish. This is a robust red weight of dark plums and cherries, complex smokey meat notes melded with cocoa and spices; supported by a firm, grippy tannin structure. Serve with barbeque meat and roasted beef over the next 3-5 years.
