Hatters Hill Pinot Noir: The New Release

Hatters Hill Pinot Noir: The New Release

The Hatters Hill Pinot Noir is Delta’s flagship Pinot, showing the purest expression of the variety from our founding Delta vineyard, planted in the early 2000s. The 2017 vintage went down a treat with judges throughout the world, winning multiple top awards including:

• Wine of Provenance Trophy - Marlborough Wine Show 2019 New Zealand

• Marlborough Pinot Noir Trophy - International Wine Challenge 2019 UK

• Grand Gold- Mondial Des Pinots 2019 Switzerland

And most importantly, it seemed to go down well with you, our customers, with compliments flowing through week after week for this wonderfully received wine. But like most things in the world, all good things must come to an end, and we are now out of stock of the 2017 vintage.

Our eagerly anticipated 2018 release is now available across New Zealand and to our global distribution base, subject to allocations.

Made with only select Dijon clones 115 from the Delta vineyard and matured in French oak barriques for just over ten months, the 2018 vintage also had the added extra of 10% whole bunch clusters added to the ferment. In simple terms, adding whole bunches adds extra depth, texture and complexity to the flavour profile- something we know our Delta fans enjoy from the Hatters Hill range.

We reached out to a couple of well-respected New Zealand wine writers to get their feedback on the new 2018 release, and here’s what they had to say:

Wine Orbit, Sam Kim - April 2020

Rating: 94 Points “Sweetly fruited and seductively complex, the wine shows spiced cherry, dark plum, cured meat and olive characters on the nose. It's equally attractive on the palate, offering lovely weight and rounded mouthfeel, wonderfully complemented by silken texture and polished tannins, finishing long and delightfully savoury. At its best: now to 2024.”

Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier - April 2020

Rating: 93 Points “Really nice bouquet of Pinot Noir with an immediate sense of pinosity from fruit then spice then soil. Aromas of red berries and roses, plum and light brown baking spice and stony, dry stone mineral layer. Harmonious and inviting. On the palate - youthful, fresh, varietal and tense with chalk-dust textures of tannin, medium+ acidity and fruit flavours that reflect the nose. Youthful still, nice weight and tension, balanced and well made. Drink now and through 2023.”

What about with food?

We adore the subtle earthy tones our Hatters Hill Pinot Noir offers, so here’s some of our favourite food pairing options to go with this wine:

Lamb - Roasted New Zealand Lamb with fresh mint sauce and a medley of roasted seasonal vegetables is a classic and robust pairing with the elegant savoury notes of this wine.

Mushrooms - Oven baked polenta with roasted garlic mushrooms is a match made in heaven with the subtle earthy characteristics of the Hatters Hill Pinot Noir, and a delightful vegetarian friendly option.

But don’t just take it from the wine writers or us, we’d love you to give it a try and let us know what you think. Click here to buy your case, or drop us an email if you’d prefer to order a single bottle to start with.

Cheers,
Alison & Heather
