Chair of Judges Michael Brajkovich MW said "Elegant and refined Sauvignon Blanc varietal aroma with some tropical volatile thiol characters. Smoky oak-like mellow bottle age, with a well-balanced and rich, weighty palate with length and a crisp acid finish."

Vineyard

The fruit is sourced from a single vineyard located on the fertile, free draining soils of Marlborough's sub region of Dillons Point. The coastal location and the cooler climate creates a longer growing season, providing a greater intensity of flavour to the wine and a hint of salt to the palate.

Vinification

From flowering through to ripening the 2014 growing season was warmer than usual, although the cooler evenings allowed the unique flavour development typical of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

The fruit was carefully monitored during ripening and machine harvested in the cool of the evening at maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness. The grapes were transported with haste to the winery where they were de-stemmed and pressed immediately to minimize skin contact.
After settling, the racked juice was inoculated with yeast and fermented at 12 degrees celsius for three weeks to retain fruit flavour and freshness. The wine was racked, blended, stabilized, filtered and bottled without fining.

This wine is drinking beautifully now and will be best enjoyed over the next one to two years. An ideal match with pan-fried scallops, fresh asparagus or Marlborough mussels.
