Heather moved to Marlborough in 2008 after completing a Master of Science in Psychology at Canterbury University.
Her intention was to experience the romance of harvest then move to Melbourne to pursue a career in architectural psychology. Plans changed however when she fell in love with the wine industry and Marlborough.
Since basing herself in Marlborough she has completed a Graduate Diploma in Oenology, and has worked harvests for prominent high end wine companies in Tuscany and California. Heather has spent five years as assistant winemaker at a large family wine company before taking on the role of winemaker for The Delta Wine Company.
When not working she loves to explore the world, but always loves coming home to Marlborough, where she enjoys sailing in the Marlborough Sounds, rowing on the Wairau River and sharing local food and wines with friends.
Neal and his wife Judy were one of the earliest private grape growers in Marlborough, first planting grapes in 1978. Their extensive viticulture experience spans nearly 30 years and has allowed them to identify the best vineyard areas and sites in Marlborough. The Delta Vineyard being a perfect example.
In 1994 Neal and Judy established Saint Clair Estate Wines which now sells to over 70 markets world-wide. In 2005 they built a state of the art winery at Riverlands Estate in Marlborough where the Delta wines will now be crafted from the 2015 vintage onwards.
Our newly released 2015 Delta Pinot Noir wins Gold at the New Zealand International Wine Show in October. The largest wine competition held in New Zealand, entry is open for wines from any country and made from any grape variety. Judging of over 2,050 entries this year was chaired by Bob Campbell MW.
