Perhaps someone with an extensive knowledge of wines, a deep appreciation for food and wine pairings, and a passion for supporting the restaurant industry. If so, then you're thinking of Alison Baylis, Brand Manager of Delta Estate.
Born and raised in Colchester, UK, Alison's love affair with wine started at a young age while working at a fine dining restaurant. Her time spent in Epernay, France, learning about Champagne production, coupled with guidance from experienced sommeliers on wine selection and food pairing, ignited an interest in wine and viticulture.
Alison's academic journey initially took her in a different direction. She earned a degree in Politics and International Relations from the University of Warwick. However, her passion for wine saw her pursuing further studies at the London Wine School, where she successfully achieved her WSET Levels 2 and 3 in Wine & Spirits.
In 2016, Alison made the move to New Zealand, a country renowned for its exceptional wines. Here, she continued to fuel her passion for wine and education, culminating in the successful completion of her WSET Level 4 Diploma in 2022.
With her years of experience in the trade, Alison is dedicated to supporting the restaurant industry. She is continually expanding her knowledge of new food and wine pairings, never losing her enthusiasm for learning and in the world of wine.
Alison's favourite grape variety is Pinot Noir, a testament to her admiration for New Zealand wine, where this grape variety thrives and produces some of the world's most acclaimed wines.
As the Brand Manager of Delta Estate, Alison blends her vast knowledge of wines, her passion for the industry, and her commitment to education. She plays a pivotal role in promoting and strengthening the Delta Estate brand, contributing significantly to its success.
